Epiroc tests the world's first surface electric drill rig

Epiroc aims to achieve electrification of its entire fleet with the world's first battery-powered surface drill rig.

Announces its new SmartROC T35 E (“E” for electric), which combines Epiroc's extensive experience in developing battery-powered underground mining equipment with the SmartROC T35 drilling rig, recognized in the market for its high performance in drilling applications. quarries and construction.

For these types of applications, this innovative, fully battery-powered surface drill rig will help improve environmental standards, with greater sustainability. In addition to zero emissions operations, the drill comes with enhanced automation solutions and options to increase safety, reliability and performance.

The construction company Skanska will test the drilling equipment in a quarry near Stockholm (Sweden). The platform will arrive at the quarry in September. Epiroc will announce later when the SmartROC T35 E will be available on the market.

Epiroc will offer its entire fleet of underground mining equipment as battery electric versions by 2025 and its entire fleet for surface operations as battery versions by 2030.
