On June 15 and 16, the 'Rental in Transition' convention was held, organized by the European Rental Assotiation (ERA), the association that promotes a sustainable and professional rental industry in Europe. Moicano Rent analyzes the implications for the sector of this 16th edition, which took place in Riga, the capital of Latvia, with more than 340 attendees from 26 different countries in the European equipment rental sector.
This is a prestigious event that has analyzed the energies of the future, the 'European Green Deal' and the active part that the equipment rental industry must take in the fight to curb climate change. At Moicano Rent they are attentive to all the news in the framework of the green transition and as such they want to echo certain conclusions of the convention.
They focus, specifically, on the presentation by Jacopo Brunelli (Boston Consulting Group), on "Climate change, energy transition and implications for construction and rental". A problem that is going through its most critical juncture: the atmosphere has the highest concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in history and is registering a worrying rate of increase in global temperature.
Deforestation and melting are only the tip of the iceberg. The great field where construction machinery must act is the emission of greenhouse gases, in which a "radical turn" is required. The effort will necessarily be unanimous among governments, institutions, activist organizations and consumers to achieve carbon neutrality in 2055, among other objectives.
Implications for the sector
The Boston Consulting Group highlighted five key instruments on the construction industry:
Adopt the ETS (Emissions Trading System) mechanism in the industry and energy sectors, reaching a 43% reduction in 2030 compared to 2005.
Tax all high CO2 content materials entering the European market.
Update the tax structure of energy consumption to consider its environmental impact.
To avoid an abrupt transition, economic and fiscal incentives will be granted to homeowners and SMEs.
The progressive reduction of CO2 emissions until 2030 should lead to the total elimination of these engines in 2035.
Energy efficient and low emission engines
In addition to the industrialized or modular construction, which speeds up the times of a work and reduces the costs and emissions of the construction process, the machinery sector must consider two packages of environmental measures. One of them is to incorporate the digital revolution, which offers tools to optimize the productivity of an excavator or loader and monitor the reduced emissions through data analysis.

Finally, it should be noted that part of the Moicano Rent rental catalog is governed by the European Stage V emission regulations, a low-consumption and latest-generation engine. These are two examples of machines with the Stage V engine: the Bobcat S450 V skid steer loader and the Komatsu PC24MR-5 mini excavator. Several machines also carry the AdBlue compound, a mixture of nitrogen and water value that is less harmful to air quality and the environment.
